SHARPSHOOTER
[History of the G.A.R. Memorial Hall, Marshall, MI by Chris Czopek]
Battle Creek Moon, 14th:
Last evening Under Sheriff Powell went down to Marshall and arrested
Simeon D. Carr, a blacksmith, who is accused of the non-support of his family.
Carr was at work there, and is able to any time to earn his $2.50 a day, so there
is no reason why his deglected family should become a charge upon the tax-payers
of the city.
Carr was brought back and arraigned before Justice Briggs, where he pleaded not
guilty and was returned to jail.
This action on the part of the authorities receives the endorsement of all good
citizens, and it is said that other cases as flagrant as this will receive the
attention of the officers as soon as they get the time to attend to them;
so look out if you are neglecting your home.
[The Democratic Expounder, Wednesday, April 15, 1891, p.3, c.1]
Simeon Carr died Saturday afternoon at the residence of his daughter, Mrs.
Fred Etts.
Mr. Carr was a veteran of the civil war and was totally disabled and for a few
years past had drawn a pension for total disability.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at Grand Army hall.
