The first ward caucus convened at the office of Brown & Patterson and chose J. M. Parsons for chairman and J. S. Noyes for secretary. Those present thinking that the health of the aldermen should be looked to a little more closely chose Dr. E. L. Gallup for alderman, Jacob Van Ness was nominated for constable. Mrs. Nellie Stone, wife of Frank Stone and daughter of Addison Brown of Burlington, died this morning about ten o'clock at the home of Jacob Van Ness on Monroe street. She was the cook at the Herndon hotel and was 27 years old. The cause of death was malaria fever. Her remains will be taken to Burlington on Saturday for burial. She leaves two children. Mrs. C. F. Parker received word yesterday of the serious illness of her father, Jacob Van Ness of Lansing who suffered a stroke of paralysis Monday. Mr. Van Ness is about 76 years of age and his recovery is doubtful. He was formerly baggage agent at the Michigan Central and resided here until about twelve years ago. Jacob Van Ness, age 77, father of Mrs. Chas. Parker, and for years a resident of Marshall, died yesterday at Lansing. Mr. Van Ness was for twenty years Michigan Central baggeman and was very well known. Death was caused by pneumonia. The remains will be brought here tomorrow at 12:30 o'clock and taken direct to the chapel at Oakridge where services will be held. Rev. A. Watson Brown will officiate.
