      Mr. Hutchinson presented the claim of Benjamin Brand for bounty, which was allowed. [The Marshall Statesman, Wednesday, October 27, 1869, p.3, c.3]

      Benjamin Brand was brought in and plead guilty to a charge of assault and battery before Justice Foley this morning and was fined six cents and costs, as it seemed that he was forced into the fight. [The Daily Chronicle, Friday, May 21, 1886, p.3, c.1] and [The Daily Expounder, Friday, May 28, 1886, p.4, c.1]

      Mrs. Benjamin Brand of Fredonia who died on the 9th inst., was 47 years of age. She was married 15 years ago to Mr. Brand. Besides her husband she leaves a daughter and an adopted daughter. The remains were buried in Albion Nov. 10. Mr. Brand takes occasion to thank his friends and neighbors for the many kindnesses shown. [The Marshall Statesman, Friday, November 19, 1897, p.7, c.2]

      Married, at the residence of the officiating clergyman in Fredonia, Rev. J. M. Getchell, on Monday afternoon the 25th inst., Mr. Benjamin E. Brand and Mrs. Elizabeth Boody, both of Fredonia. [The Daily Chronicle, Saturday, June 30, 1900, p.3, c.1]

      Funeral services for Benjamin Brand will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lawton. Rev. A. C. Schue of the Union church will officiate and burial will be at the Riverside cemetery. [Marshall Evening Chronicle, Thursday, January 9, 1936, p.8, c.5-6]

Funeral Service
      The funeral of Benjamin Brand Tekonsha's last civil War veteran, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lawton friday afternoon with military honors. The American flag was draped over the casket. The bearers, Ernest Reichow, Howard Upston, Ward Murrey, Mac Eldred, Claude Johnson and James Gray, were World War soldiers. Twelve members of the American Legion of Coldwater acted as honorary bearers and a delegation from the Coldwater Light Guards formed the firing squad and color bearer, who carried the flag of the Worth Post, G.A.R., of Tekonsha. The Coldwater delgations were in command of Dr. George Vail. Rev. A. C. Schue of the Tekonsha Union church officiated, taking his text from the fourth chapter of Timothy: “The time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight; I have finished my course.” Burial was at Riverside cemetery.
      Relatives from away who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sanders and Mrs. Will Dixon of Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Arah Sayers of Colon, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Brand and sons of Athens.
